DC Shoe Co
American company DC Shoes specialises in innovative footwear and apparel for action sports, particularly skateboarding. The company, originally named 'Droors Clothing', was founded by Damon Way and Ken Block in California in the early 90s. Droors Clothings had a youthful streetwear style with graffiti illustrations and prints that were hugely popular. The entrepreneurial pair was also working on several other magazine and street clothing startups. Droors Clothing was later renamed DC Shoes in 1993. Way and Block quickly grew the company, hiring creative people from both the East Coast and West Coast that shared their vision for DC Shoes. They were passionate about graffiti, street culture as well as producing innovative shoes designed for skateboarding. They were ahead of their time designing padded skateboarding shoes that were less ‘puffy’, as well as incorporating elements seen in basketball and sports shoes. This was in an era before Adidas and Nike entered the skateboarding market. They were the first company to do a collaboration with Supreme. In 2011 they refreshed their brand logo, and featured their skateboarding team of Mike Mo Capaldi, Nyjah Houston, Chris Cole and Davis Torgerson. In 2012 they created a women’s collection of footwear and apparel. In 2013 Capaldi, Kremer and Huston all released their signature shoes for DC.Â
