The Man
iac, the Myth, the Legend.
James McInnes graced the streets of his home town, Lower Hutt, on a recent trip back from England. I got to spend the afternoon shooting with him. He's a very cool dude. Right before we started shooting , he said to me: 'We need to make the photos look as weird as possible' - never had I heard truer words. He then proceeded to furiously boardslide around concrete right angles. Like how the fuck is that even possible?
The Plaza - the spot we were shooting at, wasn't extraordinarily fascinating to look at. Especially when trying to create imagery that is 'as weird as possible'. We were confined by the dull geometric blocks that The Plaza is formed by.
After taking heaps of photos that we weren't really satisfied with, it struck us that we should try accentuate the structure of straight lines and hard edges in the space we were working in - instead of trying to ignore them.
It was great working with someone who was so dedicated to getting this holy grail photo that we both envisioned, he was very committed - no matter how many times he had to do the trick..
The man had lots of pearls of wisdom to share, walked away feeling stoked as after that shoot.
